Basic Data on the Central Bank of BH Web Site

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina Web Site is created in the PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) programming language. In order to see the contents of this Site without problems, you have to have installed Internet Explorer (Version 6 or higher), or Mozilla Firefox (Version 2 or higher) on your computer. In order for the Site to function properly, Cookies have to be enabled in your web browser. Resolution required for viewing of the Web Site is 1024*768 pixels.

Document Formats Which Can be Found on the Central Bank of BH Web Site

CSV - Comma Separated Values. All data in tables on the www.cbbh.ba can be found in this format. The reason for usage of this format is that it enables using of the table-based data (Statistics, Currency Exchange list), on all computer platforms. The format in which the data are published is Unicode UTF-8 (codepage) and the data are comma delimited. Table-based data published in this format can be used in following way (explained on the example of Microsoft Excel 2003): On the Web Site, open statistical table or exchange rate list which you are interested in. Below the table, there is the option Downloads, where you will find an icon representing the CSV format. After clicking on it, select the option to save the CSV formatted table on your hard drive. Select the option, i.e. Desktop, and save the file. Note, the CSV document will be created by the table outlook which was selected by the user, that is, if you apply some of filters for column selection (only in the section Statistics), the CSV file will contain only the data from those columns selected for showing. Start Excel and open the new document, (tab "File" and option "New"). After that, press the tab "Data", select the option "Import External Data" and select the first option available "Import Data". After that in the window "Select Data Source" chose the location where the CSV file is saved (in our example Desktop). With the selection of the file you will switch to "Text Import Wizard", where you will be prompted about the format of the file which is imported. Select option "Delimited", and press the "Next" button. In the section of the window which is called "Delimiters", switch off the "Tab" option and turn on the "Comma" option instead. The data in the preview window below should be lined in columns. After that, press the "Finish" and "Import Data" option will appear, which will ask the question where the imported data will be shown. Click on the "OK" button and the operation of data import from the CSV file will be completed.

XLS - Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. All the table data (exchange rate list, tables published under the link "Statistics") are available to be downloaded in this format. The compatibility with the previous versions is provided up to the version Microsoft Excel 2000. For proper presentation of the data in the tables, you need to set your regional settings in Windows to "English (United States)". If this is not done, it can happen that the auto-format function of Microsoft Excel should incorrectly interpret the contents of the cell and format it e.g. as a date, which would disturb the consistency of the data. The change is done in the following way (the example done in Widows XP): through the "Start" menu, we enter the "Control Panel" of the computer. In the icons, you need to search for the option "Regional and Language Options". If that option is not available at first, in the upper left corner of the window, search for the option "Switch to Classic View" and click it. After clicking the icon "Regional and Language Options", the window with the three main tabs (sub-menus) will open, where you should select "Regional Options". In that tab, there are two sub-options - "Standards and Formats" and "Location", and the drop-down menus with the selection of the countries are available on both of them. Switch to "English (United States)" should be done in sub-option "Standards and Formats". After that, by pushing the button "Apply", the required changes should be applied. If your user privileges do not allow for the application of these settings, you need to contact your network administrator.

XML -Extensible Markup Language. All the table data (exchange rate list, tables published under the link "Statistics") are available to be downloaded in this format. The same as in the case of CSV format, the reason for using this format is that it makes possible to use the table data published on www.cbbh.ba at all computer platforms, and it is particularly suitable for data base developers, who wish to connect direct to the web data base of the Central Bank.

RSS - Really Simple Syndication. Some table-based data were also presented in this format, which is intended for publishing of so-called, "web-feeds". Some of available RSS readers are required to read to the data published in this format, or the browser which supports this function (Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox 2 or higher version, Opera Browser 9 or higher version).

PDF - Portable Document Format. All documents on the Web Site are published in this format. For correct viewing of these documents we recommend installation of the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

DOC - Microsoft Word Document. Some documents published on this Web Site (Speeches and Presentations, Monthly Balance Sheet) are published in this format. Backward compatibility provided up to Microsoft Word 2000. If you do not have Microsoft Office installed on your computer, we recommend downloading and installation of the free Microsoft Word Viewer from Microsoft's web pages.

PPT - Microsoft PowerPoint. In the part Speeches and Presentations one part of presentations was created in the Microsoft PowerPoint format. Backward compatibility provided up to Microsoft PowerPoint 2000. If you do not have Microsoft Office installed on your computer, we recommend downloading and installation of the free Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer from Microsoft's web pages.

ZIP - For easier usage, some data were archived with the WinZip (Monthly Balance Sheet). In order to use these archives, we recommend download and installation of the WinZip archive software from the Internet.
