"European Integration: Competition that stimulates, co-operation that strengthens, and solidarity that unites"

Jacques Delors

The Role of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union Accession Process

EU accession is a strategic priority for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The CBBH, through strong institutional cooperation with the Directorate of European Integrations, a permanent body of B&H Council of Ministers, line ministries and EU structures, actively participates in the process of B&H accession to the EU. Continuously improving its operations in line with EU standards, the CBBH works to promote European values.  In the light of global financial turmoil, maintenance of monetary system stability is of fundamental importance. A strong, stable and independent central bank contributes to macroeconomic stability and overall to better preparedness of the country for European integration process and accession.

The CBBH participates in the work of coordination and expert institutional structures of B&H established with the aim of meeting EU requirements and obligations and provides data and information under its jurisdiction for the following documents: Regular Annual Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina Progress in the European Integration, Action Plan of the implementation of the Interim Agreement and the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Action Plan for the implementation of the priorities of the European Partnership, Economic and Fiscal Programme and EU Integration Strategy of Bosnia. The CBBH representatives also participate in the Economic Dialogue with the European Commission, Subcommittee for Economic and Financial Issues and Statistics and sectoral meetings of the Reform Process Monitoring. In the process of convergence to EU standards and preparations for the participation in the ESCB to be followed with full membership to the EMU, CBBH continues to ensure monetary stability, operating on the principle of independence and transparency.

Independence, efficiency, policies and practices that, in many aspects, are at or close to EU standards, trust, good communication with BH citizens and public, together contribute and confirm excellent reputation the CBBH enjoys.
