Gathering with journalists: The role and importance od payment systems and registers in the CBBH

7/29/2021

The payment systems of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) have been a fact for 20 years, now, which confirms the thesis that complex systems can function in our country according to the highest world standards. From the first operational day, the Real-time gross settlement system (RTGS) has been successfully and stably functioning within the payment systems - for payments over KM 10,000 and the gyro clearing system for transactions in the amount equal to or less than KM 10, 000. And it has never happened that the system failed or did not do the intended work on time. Not even during the 2014 floods or the systemic changes brought about by the COVID -19 pandemic.

Over the years, the system has been continuously upgraded to meet all necessary technological and security standards, and the biggest step forward was made in 2019 when the gyro clearing system was harmonized with the way of operations in the European Union (EU), thus creating a precondition for faster integration of payments system of the CBBH in EU flows.

No excuse for deviating from the excellence is allowed. The overall business of the CBBH is based on this principle. Work ethic, including the constant efforts from the staff members to improve the work, can result in two decades of flawless operations of one of the largest systems in the country.

Today, the Head of the IT Support Service of the CBBH Payment Systems Department, Saša Lemez, introduced to the journalists the history and basic features of Payment Systems; Real-time gross settlement, giro clearing payments, and arrangements brought about by Single Registers of Accounts and of Credits. As the story of the convertible mark to be a credible argument that there is a good thing that unifies us.

We all love convertible marks equally, because we can trust them, so as, the story of the CBBH Payment Systems is a fact clearly indicating that we can work in line with the highest standards in our country.

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the convertible mark have never let us down.
