5/30/2025

Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. and Vice Governor M.Sc. Marko Vidaković, have participated in the international conference “Growth and Resilience in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) in a More Fragmented World”, organised on 29 and 30 May 2025 in Dubrovnik, the Republic of Croatia, by the Croatian National Bank (CNB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

On this occasion, Governor Selimović stressed that "in modern economic environment, where crises and shocks have become a permanent category, monetary stability, institutional resilience and independence of the CBBH are preconditions for the economic development and European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Experiences clearly show that monetary policy has a crucial role in preserving macroeconomic stability, while the central bank independence guarantees credibility, predictability and confidence — factors which are essential for long-term stability, especially in circumstances of global challenges."

„Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a small and open economy, must continue to develop credible policies based on transparency, professionalism and the regulatory framework strengthening. The CBBH is committed to strengthening capacities which are relevant for preserving macroeconomic stability, including improving analytical and research capacities, strengthening fiscal-monetary coordination, digitalisation and financial education, as well as improving the understanding of global trends that shape the present day economic challenges", added Governor Selimović.

The Governor also pointed out that the partnership of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the IMF has a key role in implementing reform measures which strengthen the country's essential economic and financial capacities. "The reforms we are implementing with the support of the IMF are not only a response to current challenges — they are strategic steps towards strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of our economy. This process is aimed at preparing Bosnia and Herzegovina for the membership in the European Union, with our final goal being to build a modern, stable state with a higher standard of living for all citizens," said the Governor.

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank, and Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice President of the European Commission spoke at the conference as key speakers.

The conference brought together high-level representatives of international institutions, central banks, governments, academic community and business sector, with the aim of exchanging opinions on the economic and political challenges which the CESEE region countries are facing, as well as strengthening the resilience of macroeconomic policies in the circumstances of increasing global fragmentation. During the panels and round tables, participants discussed the importance of structural reforms, the need for expanding fiscal space, investment in innovation and education, and adapting to new global realities.
