The Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina,  Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. delivered a keynote presentation at the prestigious international event Central Banking Summer Meetings, taking place on 11 and 12 June in London, United Kingdom.

In her speech entitled “Navigating Complexity: Financial Stability in a World of Shifting Narratives”, the Governor highlighted that contemporary central banks face multifaceted challenges, from inflationary pressures and geopolitical uncertainty, to rapid technological developments and changing global narratives.

She stressed that central banks no longer operate in a predictable environment, but in a world of intertwined and often simultaneous crises. Managing stability in such an environment requires resilience, strategic adaptability and long-term thinking.

“In a time when changes no longer occur in cycles but simultaneously on multiple fronts, the task of central banks is to remain strong, credible and ready regardless of how global narratives change,” said Governor.

She put particular emphasis on the importance of digital transformation and strengthening institutional resilience, which is also recognized as a priority in the Strategic Plan of the Central Bank of BH.

Speaking about the role of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, she pointed out the need for regulation to keep pace with innovation and ensure that technological progress contributes to stability and the public interest. She added that digitalization is not just a technical process, but an opportunity for modernization, greater efficiency and transparency.

In the context of foreign exchange reserve management, Governor emphasized that small central banks must carefully consider the structure of their portfolios, taking into account not only liquidity and security, but also geopolitical resilience and diversification.

She also pointed to the role of central banks in supporting sustainable financing, emphasizing that the Green Agenda is becoming an increasingly important segment of financial stability. Although the green bond market is not yet fully developed, especially for smaller economies, the potential exists, especially through strengthening international standards and cooperation.

Finally, she emphasized that public confidence, institutional consistency and open communication are what give weight to every decision of the central bank, especially in small and open economies operating under a currency board regime.

The Central Banking Summer Meetings have been bringing together leading leaders and policymakers in the field of central banking for more than two decades, providing a platform for the exchange of views on the most important issues in the policy and operational sphere of central banks around the world.

Governor Selimović also participates in the panel discussion “Navigating Challenges and Pioneering Change: Women Leading Central Banks in a Transformative Era”.
