Data-based innovation at the service of women entrepreneurs and economic growth

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), has published the first interactive Dashboard of gender-disaggregated financial data in Bosnia and Herzegovina - a digital tool that for the first time makes possible an overview of the lending and deposit activities of small and medium size enterprises according to the gender ownership structure in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Dashboard in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been developed within the global Women Entrepreneurs Finance Support Initiative - WE Finance Code and is currently based on the sample of four commercial banks and one microcredit organisation. The tool includes more than 30 key indicators, including also innovative indicators of the deposit structure of the SME sector, which makes it unique in the region.

This digital resource enables the financial gap identification, the trend analysis and a better understanding of the needs of women owned enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus opening a space for the development of a targeted offer of financial products, increasing financial inclusion and improving the business environment in the country. The promotion of the Dashboard is the fourth regional event within the WE Finance Code initiative and an important step towards establishing a comprehensive system of gender-disaggregated financial data in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which implies the inclusion of as many banks and microcredit organisations as possible in the future.

The implementation of the WE Finance Code is part of a broader initiative implemented in more than 30 countries around the world, which is aimed at improving institutional support and the development of tailored financial products which will enable women entrepreneurs easier access to funds and services. The EBRD is a partner institution in the implementation of the WE Finance Code in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in 13 other countries in Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region-SEMED), where it provides technical and programme support in adjusting the Initiative to local contexts, while promoting global and regional cooperation.

The first interactive Dashboard of gender-disaggregated financial data in Bosnia and Herzegovina is available on the website of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, via the link: https://www.cbbh.ba/Content/Read/1276
