The CBBH and the ECB establish a stronger framework for cooperation 11/4/2026 Tweet The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) and the European Central Bank (ECB) have signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the prevention of counterfeiting of euro banknotes, which is a significant step in improving the institutional capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to protect the euro and combat money counterfeiting more effectively. This is an important improvement of international cooperation in the field of money protection, which is of direct importance for the security of cash transactions, the trust of citizens and the business community in the euro as one of the most important international currencies, but also for strengthening the overall financial security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This Agreement establishes a direct institutional framework for cooperation between the two central banks, based on a systematic exchange of information, technical data and expertise. The European Central Bank will provide to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina technical information and data on the known classes of counterfeit euro banknotes, including their characteristics and features relevant for their more precise identification, more reliable classification and more efficient monitoring of counterfeiting in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the other hand, the CBBH will provide to the ECB data on all counterfeited euro banknotes detected in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and, if needed, their digital images or physical samples, for expert analysis and reliable classification. This enables the including of information on counterfeits detected on the domestic market in a broader system of monitoring and analysis. The special value of the established cooperation framework is also reflected in the possibility of timely informing on significant cases of euro counterfeiting, which enhances the exchange of relevant knowledge and strengthens the ability of institutions to respond to new forms and developments of counterfeiting. "The significance of the agreement surpasses its immediate technical purpose. It further strengthens the institutional relations of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina with one of the key financial institutions of the European Union and confirms the CBBH commitment to the continuous improvement of international cooperation, the application of European standards and the strengthening of institutional capacities," said the Governor of the CBBH, Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. In the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, such forms of cooperation are particularly important because they contribute to bringing domestic institutions closer to European mechanisms, procedures and standards in the field of money protection and financial security. By signing this agreement, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina further confirms its role as a reliable institutional partner in international cooperation and continues its activities aimed at strengthening
