Governor in Dialogue with European Governors at the Conference of the IMF Belgian-Dutch Constituency

Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. participated in the Conference of Central Banks' Governors of the Belgian-Dutch Constituency within the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The National Bank of Belgium was hosting this Conference, held on February 9, 2024, in Brussels.

 

The Conference was featured by the Governors of 16 Central Banks of the Constituency, the Executive Director of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva, the Executive Director of the Belgian-Dutch Constituency Paul Hilbers, his Deputies Luc Dresse and Vladyslav Rashkovan, together with representatives of the academy, other senior officials of the IMF and of the Central Banks.

The leading theme of the Conference was the independence of Central Banks. The main speech was presented by prof. Paul Dermine (Université Libre de Brussels). The Governor participated in the first session called “The Importance of Central Banks Independence“. In her speech, she devoted special attention to the effectiveness of monetary policy in the circumstances of the stressed unequal distribution of wealth in population, and populism which strengthens the evident inequality.

This has been the first international engagement of the Governor, in the surrounding of her colleagues from other Central Banks. The Governor points out that strong relations among the Central Banks of the Constituency are important for all the countries, as they help the Office of the IMF Executive Director to promote the interests of the Constituency member country in the best possible way.

Governor thanked the Governor of the National Bank of Belgium, Pierr Wunsch, for the organisation and hospitality.
